Best Dressed 2017

For the forth year in a row, I am taking a look back at some of the best dressed stars on the red carpet from the past 12 months. If you follow me on pinterest (phillippadesign) you will know that I have a 'Celebrity Red Carpet' board, and on here I pin all the best looks from: major awards shows, premieres, film festivals, the MET gala, etc. I love seeing how catwalk looks translate onto the red carpet and this year there have been some great red carpet moments. Keep reading if you want to see my 'Top 10 Best Dressed 2017' list...
Jennifer Lawrence - Atelier Versace Fall 17 - Mother! London Premiere
This look left me utterly speechless. Head-to-toe stunning! JLaw often opts for Dior, so in itself it was refreshing to see the actress wearing an unexpected brand. Whilst the silhouette is classic, the detail is beyond extraordinary. The hair and make up was also perfection.  10/10
Cara Delevingne - Chanel - MET Gala
Cara is never one to shy away from really making an impact on the red carpet and if there was ever an event for the young actress to pull out all the stops it was of course going to be the MET Gala. I love that Cara doesn't always play by the rules when it comes to fashion, ditching a classic gown and instead opting for an exquisite embellished Chanel suit. What really made this look work for me, was the head-to-toe silver styling. I can't really think of many other Hollywood actresses who would take such a risk, so Cara has to be saluted for that.
Elle Fanning - Vivienne Westwood - Cannes Film Festival
Super stylist Samantha McMillen has really put Elle Fanning on the fashion map for me. Elle always delivers show stopping red carpet moments and this year at the Cannes Film Festival the actress really shone. This customised Vivienne Westwood gown was everything a Cannes gown should be. It was Hollywood glamour but with a fun / youthful twist. Loved it.
Lily Aldridge - Ralph Lauren - MET Gala
As we know the MET Gala is the one event where it is generally accepted that attendees will take risks and wear something a little different. I adored the drama of the Ralph Lauren dress as worn by Lily Aldridge. The razor sharp cut-out details created a 'look at me' moment without being overly 'try hard'. The red Balenciaga 'knife' boots were the perfect choice for this look, adding yet more drama. Had it not been for the boots I don't think this look would have made my top 10.
Zendaya - Dolce and Gabbana - MET Gala
Talk about making an entrance! Zendaya is one of my favourite red carpet stars, constantly pushing boundaries with her red carpet looks wearing the the most eye-catching pieces from seasonal collections. It is not very often that stars wear printed gowns to such huge events, a photocall perhaps, but not usually an event the scale of the MET Gala which is why this look was a breath of fresh air. Amazing!
Daisy Ridley - Monse - Star Wars: The Last Jedi LA Premiere
Daisy Ridley is definitely one to watch as a rising star of both the screen and the red carpet. Having enlisted the help of stylist Samantha McMillen, Daisy delivered some incredible red carpet  moments on the Star Wars: The Last Jedi promo tour. Each look was perfect for the theme of the movie, and non more so than this incredible sequinned gown from the Monse SS18 collection. Monse is fast becoming one of the hottest brands to wear on the red carpet, and with a star applique design it really was a match made in heaven that Daisy wore this dress. It was show stopping and fashion forward at the same time, but without being too OTT. I can't wait to follow Daisy's style evolution on the red carpet over the next year.
Blake Lively - Atelier Versace - Golden Globes
Blake rarely puts a foot wrong on the red carpet, knowing exactly how to nail the Hollywood glamour look. Back in January the actress took to the red carpet at the Golden Globes in a floor length Versace gown. It was elegant and sophisticated and yet I also loved the relaxed feel of the gown with the addition of embellished pockets.
Kate Bosworth - Alexandre Vauthier - InStyle Awards
Ok, so whilst this look wasn't worn to a major event I absolutely adored it. Kate Bosworth is one of my favourite style icons, loving her style both on and off the red carpet. Kate can do ultra feminine looks, but as this outfit proves she can also do drama. I mean what is not to love about a floor length sequinned gown with defined shoulders and a thigh high split? The blue floral corsage and red rip showed Kate's natural flair for red carpet dressing.
Lily Aldridge - J.Mendel - Bulgari event
Same as above, this look was not worn to a major red carpet event, but nonetheless it was flawless. The fitted bodice was ultra flattering and the cape added drama to the look. The beautiful colour of the dress really made this outfit memorable for me. It is not always easy to successfully wear a floor length gown in such a bright colour, but Lily managed to pull this off superbly. Slick back hair completed the look.
Zoe Kravitz - Christian Dior Fall 17 Couture - Emmy Awards
Zoe is another star who is not afraid to take risks on the red carpet. The actress is known for her edgy style and she always shows that when dressing for events. This Dior gown with rainbow coloured feathers was breathtaking. Wearing one colour can be daring in its own right, let alone a multitude of colours. A plunging neckline and diamond choker added the finishing touches.

SS18 Accessories Trend - 90's Bum Bags

That 90's trend really isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Making a major comeback for SS18 is the 90's number one choice of accessory - the bum bag...yes really. There was me thinking that I had assigned these bags to the distant past of my 90's childhood and then the SS18 catwalk shows assured me that this trend is well and truly back (for at least the next season anyway). This somewhat humble bag has been given quite the hipster overhaul for Spring, with many styles being reinterpreted in luxe leather and suede. Traditionally worn around the waist, for SS18 designers styled them as teeny-tiny crossbody bags...how chic! Think of them as the sister bag to the backpack - they enable you to go hands-free but without being able to hold as much. And if you need further assurance that this bag is worth the investment for next season, then take note that the likes of Nicola Peltz and Kaia Gerber have already been rocking this trend. Key Designers: Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs and Sportmax

The Colour Edit - Port

Aside from classic red and green, has there ever been a more festive colour than a splash of Autumnal port? I mean even just the word 'port' conjures up images of Christmas cheese boards with an obligatory glass of everyone's favourite festive tipple. The rich red/burgundy hue is perfect for the season and works well styled with black and gold accessories. Street style favourites Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo have both been spotted embracing this trend head-to-toe, whereas red carpet goddess Rosie Huntington-Whiteley recently opted for a stunning velvet evening look. Port also works well for make up...a rich smoky eye or bold lip - both beautiful.
If you are looking to add a little colour into your autumnal wardrobe or looking for alternatives to the LBD for Christmas, then look no further than this edit of where to shop the best 'Port' pieces this Fall...

SS18 Trend Report - Paint Splashes

Expressive artistic flair is the order of the day for SS18, with yet more designers being inspired by the wonderful world of art. Having already explored the emerging trend for Mondrian inspired collections and spray paint prints, this latest trend looks at the work of Alexander Calder and Joan Miro whilst focusing on a colour palette of primary brights. Seemingly random splashes of paint adorn traditionally cut gowns, resulting in a modern twist on classic red carpet dressing. Key Designers - Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la renta

On Trend Now - Bakerboy Hats

The baker boy hat is officially one of the biggest accessories trends of 2017, and whilst you might be tempted to reach for your traditional wooly hat this Fall you need to be reaching for baker boy cap. This humble hat, which has been popular since the 19th century, has been having a MAJOR revival over the past 12 months. Celebrities such as: Kaia Gerber, Romee Strijd, Emily Ratajkowski and Bella Hadid have been championing this look and styling the look for both day and night. Cropped jeans with a cool tee makes for the ultimate relaxed street style look, whereas switch for leather trousers for an elevated evening outfit. If you are wanting a failsafe hat, then opt for wool (Brixton have some great styles) or if you want something even more fashion forward go for leather or corduroy. Best of all, they perfectly disguise the dreaded 'bad hair day'. See below for style inspo and some vintage throwbacks...

Outfit of The Month - December

You know me...I love a nod to rock 'n' roll with my outfits and this star print dress by one of my fave LA brands, Realisation Par,  is ticking all the right boxes. It is the perfect day to night dress and with the right styling can work for multiple occasions. I wanted to toughen up this dress by playing with different textures. I have teamed the dress with a velvet blazer from L'Agence. A classic black blazer is one of my wardrobe staples, but this velvet version ramps up the style stakes for the festive season.  Now lets talk footwear...I mean seriously, how cool are these sequin boots from Isabel Marant? The angular heel gives some serious extra sass to this outfit. Completing the look is a Prada 'Cahier' bag in black leather with silver hardware and a Missoma x Lucy Williams silver horn necklace.
