Exhibition - YSL: Style Is Eternal

Last week I visited the 'YSL - Style Is Eternal' Exhibition at The Bowes Museum. This is the first exhibition of the designers work in the UK. It was also perfect timing, as it was announced last week that the Saint Laurent brand is set to return to Couture.
The exhibition is an exploration of over 40 years of the couturiers work. Set across three large rooms, 5 separate themes are looked at in detail: Haute Couture, Masculine/Feminine, Transparence, Art and Spectaculaire. With over 50 garments, as well as sketches and embroidery samples, the whole exhibition is very engaging. Whether you work in the fashion industry, study textiles/art at college, or perhaps even do not even know much about Saint Laurent, you will still find this exhibition very interesting.
The exhibition features several iconic YSL gowns and dresses. My favourite theme was 'Art', focusing on dresses inspired by Pop Art, Mondrian and Matisse. Thigh skimming hemlines with graphic prints in primary block colours - I just wanted to wear them all.
Being able to get up close to all these incredible gowns and see the exquisite beading and detail was a real a treat. To see first hand legacy the that Yves Saint Laurent left on the fashion world makes this exhibition a must see. The exhibition runs until October 25th at The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle.
