Zandra Rhodes - Internship - London

I had a superb time interning at Zandra's. I got involved in some fun design tasks, of which I can't put the pictures on my blog, but it was very colourful and creative (and everyone knows how much I love colour!!!). It was such an inspirational studio to work in; every surface full of archive work, dresses, fabric, print samples, ink pots, paint, books, etc. Not only was Zandra at the studio at the time of my internship, but Anna Sui also came to the studio. Exciting. The final day of placement was also my 21st birthday, everyone sang along to happy birthday by Stevie Wonder, we ate cake and balloons decorated the studio, such a lovely surprise. I have learnt so much, and the experience has been very valuble. The internship has left me with an even greater thirst to strive to produce work of a continued high standard so that I myself, can one day work in a studio in London.

Galleries and Exhibitions I Visited - Yohji Yamamoto at the V&A, Tommy Nutter:Rebel On The Row at the Fashion & Textile Museum, Masters of Style at Somerset House, Tracey Emin: Love Is What You Want at the Hayward gallery, Royal Academy Summer exhibition, Michelangelo Pistoletto at the Serpentine, Tate Modern, Festival of Britain anniversary exhibition at the Southbank Centre (to research for my dissertation - I bought 2 more great books), Titanic artefacts exhibition at the O2, Andrew Logan design studio, British and Natural History museums, Saatchi gallery(my favourite gallery). See below for work by the brilliant: Folkert De Jong, David Batchelor and Jeff Koons.

Design Shops I Visited - Liberty (see below for a picture of the gorgeous silk scarf I bought), Anthropologie, Heals, Paperchase, Habitat, Beyond Retro on Bricklane, Chelsea Harbour Design Centre, Fortnum & Mason, Carnaby Street. Here's a couple of hidden gems I found whilst exploring: Our Patterned Hand (a cute little haberdashery on Broadway Market selling gorgeous fabric, trimmings and buttons), Mary's Living and Giving Shop in aid of Save the Children in Primrose Hill (a fabulous new upmarket charity shop by Mary Portas). See below window displays in Paperchase and Fortnum and Mason.
